2006 - Her Majesty The Queens 80th Birthday
On the 21st April 1926, Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born. In June 1953, she was crowned Queen of England. In 2006, to join in the celebrations of Her Majesty`s 80th Birthday, the States of Alderney issued the following memorable designs.
Four Effigies Design
The coin design was designed by Michael Guilfoyle and incorporates the four cameos of Queen Elizabeth II by Gillick, Machin, Maklouf and Rank- Broadley FRBS. The twining surrounding the designs interlink to form elaborate figure 8s to represent the commemorative age. The Sliver Kilo and 65mm coin also use selective gold plating which enhances the four cameos. The coins are issued as a £1,000 Gold Kilo, a £50 Gold Plated Silver Kilo and a £10 Gold Plated Silver coin.
This coin was designed by Raphael Maklouf. The design centres around the effigy of the Queen used on the obverse of Alderney coins. However, the coin also incorporates a banner effect, imprinted with the date 21st April 2006 and is surrounded with the inscription 80th Birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. A small crown is also engraved on the coin. Two of the coin issues, the £10 Silver and the *£5 Gold, have a small diamond insert in the crown. This is the first time that a diamond has been used in an Alderney commemorative coin. Coins are also available, without diamonds, in Gold, Silver and Cupro-Nickel in a £5 denomination.
Elizabeth & Margaret Design
The coin design, dated 2006, was designed by the Royal Mint Engraving department and depicts The Queen and Princess Margaret as children. The coins are only available as a £5 silver coin with gold plating. The obverse of the coins depict a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, by Raphael Maklouf, surrounded by the inscription Elizabeth II Alderney.
This coin was designed by Ezra Casalena. The design depicts the Queen on her Coronation Day. This coin is issued as a £5 Silver coin with gold plating and as a £5 Cupro- Nickel coin.
