2005 - 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar

The Battle of Trafalgar, so called because the nearest point of land was Cape Trafalgar on the Spanish Coast, took place on the 21st October, 1805. This British victory ended many years of sea battles with France and Spain and ensured British naval supremacy. However, the victory celebrations were marred by the death of the hero of the Battle, Admiral Lord Nelson.

Battle of Trafalgar - £1 Gold Coin - The coin design, by Ian Rank- Broadley FRBS, depicts Lord Nelson and includes the inscription ``Nelson 1758-1805``.

This coin, measuring 13.92 mm in diameter, is the first gold coin of this size to be issued by Alderney.

Battle of Trafalgar - £5, £10 and £25 coins - The coin design was designed by Royal Society marine artist, Geoff Hunt. The Flag design lends itself to the use of colour and therefore colour has been pad printed on to the £5 and £10 coins. This is the first time that colour has been used on an Alderney cupro-nickel coin.

The obverse of the coins shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.

Availability of this coin is limited to the £5 Cupro-Nickel coin.
