2005 - 60th Anniversary of the End of World War II

The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to come under German Occupation. During the five years of occupation, some Islanders were evacuated from the Islands whilst many others remained, suffering great hardship. On the morning of the 9th May, 1945, much to the relief of the Islanders, the announcement was made that the occupying forces had surrendered. Liberation Day has been celebrated within the Islands ever since.
