2004 - 2005 - 2006 - The Golden Age Of Steam

2004 marked the 200th anniversary of the first locomotive to run on rails, designed by Richard Trevithick, in the midst of the Industrial Revolution.

The issue dated 2004 and 2005 is designed to capture the age as a whole, combining famous locomotive such as the Rocket, with the history of the great pre-British Rail companies, and their development, alongside everyday scenes that took place during this era.

A further issue in 2006 of Gold Plated silver coins in the same designs was also released.

There were six designs, as follows: The Rocket; The Royal Scot; The Merchant Navy 21C1; Branchline; Preparing the Loco; and Crossing the Viaduct.

The obverse of all coins feature the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.

These coins are currently available in £5 Cupro-nickel in the following designs:-

"The Rocket"; "The Royal Scot"; "Merchant Navy 21C1" .
