Registering / cancelling a legal charge (bond)

Registration of a charge is normally applied for by a Bank or Company/person lending the money.   A Land Registry Form A must be completed and one signed original and one copy of the legal charge/bond attached. A proof of identity Form C (for an individual) or Form D (for a body corporate) is also required. A form D for the lender is not required where the bond is provided by a recognized Bank.

A property owner who wishes to cancel a charge, should ask the Lender (usually a Bank) to apply for the Bond to be cancelled. A Land Registry Form A is completed and the original legal charge/bond attached for cancellation. A proof of identity Form C (for an individual) or Form D (for a body corporate) must also be completed for the parties who held the bond.

A Land Registry fee applies to both cancellation and registration of a bond, and for registration Document Duty is payable to the States of Guernsey.
