Press Release - Alderney Electronic Census Report

For immediate release: 14th June 2018

The annual Alderney Electronic Census Report is published today. It includes information on population demographics, migration, economic status, average earnings and property ownership. This year, for the first time, it also includes Gross Value Added (GVA) estimates - the increase in value of the economy due to the production of goods and services - for Alderney, which are calculated using the same method as implemented in Guernsey in 2017.

Colin Vaudin, Chief Information Officer of the States of Guernsey said "Wherever possible, the Data & Analysis team in Guernsey provide official statistics for both Alderney and Guernsey. The picture and trends can be quite different between the two Islands, so there is real value in providing the figures separately. The report provides a broad information base, which I hope will be useful for policy formulation and decision making."

Chris Brock, Director of Business Development for the States of Alderney, said "The production of these annual statistics are very important indeed particularly in terms of identifying economic and social trends in Alderney over time. While the majority of figures relate to the year ended March 2017, there are some encouraging employment results which cover the year ended December 2017. These show overall employment numbers increasing by 32 over the previous December which is equivalent to a 4% growth".

The report is available at the bottom of this article.
