2018 - Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day 2018

The Military and Remembrance theme is very important to the Island of Alderney with its military history and allegiance to the throne.  Alderney is therefore pleased to be able to issue further coins to mark the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies and to make a humble tribute towards our military personnel both past and present. This year is perhaps more poignant as it coincides with the centenary of the end of World War I.

The first design is based on the world famous poem "In Flanders Field" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae and features words from that poem together with red printed poppies on the left hand side of the coin.

The second design features the well-known quote from John Maxwell Edmunds "For your tomorrow we gave our today".  The symbol of the poppy is once again used with crosses indicating soldier's graves shown in the background.

The obverse of the coins will depict the previously approved portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, by Joel Iskowitz, surrounded by the inscription Elizabeth II Dei Gra Regina, Alderney, C.I. 2018.
