Alderney to be represented at Maltese mission

An Alderney States Member has been invited to fill one of 20 places on a select committee enquiry into sustainable economic development for small Commonwealth communities and islands.

States Member David Earl, who chairs Alderney's Finance Committee, travels to Malta at the end of this month (29-31 January 2020) for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Small Branches Sustainable Economic Development Workshop.

Small island communities who are members of the CPA were invited to nominate politicians to attend the workshop. Mr Earl has researched small island economies and has also been involved with the International Small Islands Studies Association (ISISA). He will attend the three-day workshop hosted by Malta's Parliament.

"I will be looking for opportunities to build a sustainable economic future for Alderney - one which reflects the unique heritage of the Island," said Mr Earl who will also be keen to take the opportunity to network with other delegates.

The workshop has been designated by the CPA as a Sustainable Economic Development Select Committee and will make a number of recommendations at its conclusion.
