States of Alderney produces Covid-19 Newsletter

For immediate release: 24th March 2020

An eight-page newsletter on COVID-19 has been produced by the States of Alderney for all residents and businesses.

It carries information on the current position with testing for the virus, including details on Self-Isolation and Social Distancing, advice for the over-65s and details of how Alderney is "pulling together" through the Alderney Spirit programme set up by Gabrielle Tate, wife of the President, William Tate.

It also details the latest decisions on pub closures, the way restaurants must operate and what to do about medicals, social security and Guernsey Government support in cases of hardship.

The States is also emphasising the latest information on self-isolation, especially for anyone arriving on the island from the UK or anywhere else in the world. Anyone who is self-isolating should report that they are self-isolating to the Helpline on (01481) 756938 or 756969, even if they do not have symptoms. That will mean the Helpline can let the Island Medical Centre know for further support and further advice if necessary.

The President, who has been talking to islanders every morning on Quay FM for a few weeks now, says in the Newsletter: "Working together, we can all demonstrate the 'Alderney Spirit' that connects us with all those brave souls who returned in 1945 to face their own life-changing challenge. We will get through this. It's a case of Social Distancing, pulling together by staying apart."

The Newsletter will be distributed to every home and an online PDF version is available with this press release or at
