Press Release - States Meeting brought forward
States Meeting brought forward to 11am on Monday 11 January 2021
The first allocation of the Astrazeneca vaccine has now been delivered to the Island Medical Centre.
In order to ensure that the vaccinators are afforded (subject to following the protocols) immunity from Civil Liability, it is necessary for the States of Alderney to enact The European Communities( Corona Vaccine ) ( Immunity from Civil Liability)( Alderney) Ordinance 2020.
It was intended to enact the Ordinance at the States Meeting on the 13th of January 2021. The resolution is set out in the Billet ( Item X1V ) and was discussed at the People's Meeting on the 6th of January.
In these exceptional circumstances and in order that the vaccination programme can commence on Monday, I have decided to bring the Meeting of the States of Alderney forward to 11a.m. on Monday the 11th of January. It is my intention to invite the States to deal with the Ordinance and I will then adjourn the Meeting to Wednesday the 13th as originally planned, for all the outstanding matters to be dealt with.
It is proposed that the Ordinance will be amended so that the date of commencement is the 11th of January.
I am sure that the community will agree that by taking this unprecedented step, it will allow Dr Simmons and her team to commence vaccinating our most vulnerable members on Monday.
This approach is supported by the Members and H.M. Procurer.
