Press Release - Crane operational
Alderney's new crane goes straight into action
Just a day after it was built on the harbour quay, Alderney's new crane was put through its paces
when it unloaded supplies from the MV Trinity this morning (March 2).
A team of four fitters took just three days to complete the crane's construction and are now
returning to the UK after living and working on the Island under strict Covid-19 isolation protocols.
Private residential accommodation was arranged with catered meals provided by approved critical
workers.
The Trinity had also delivered the crane parts in two separate shipments in January but bad weather
delayed the arrival of the engineers with their equipment. They work for E.H. Hassell & Son, partner
company to the crane's manufacturer, Sennebogen.
Boyd Kelly, Chairman of the General Services Committee, said the crane was vital for the wellbeing
of the community as the vast majority of the Island's food, goods and building equipment arrive by sea.
"I am grateful to the harbour staff for their preparatory work in ensuring Hassell's men met all the
Covid restrictions regarding accommodation, transport and a safe working environment," he said.
