Little Ferry service resumes at the end of May

The Little Ferry service between Alderney and Guernsey resumes in time for the Spring Bank
Holiday at the end of May.

The Spike Islander will follow a similar timetable to last year, initially two rotations a day
rising to three during the August summer peak which includes Alderney Week. It will sail
throughout September, ending on October 3.

The company has operated the service using the 12-passenger Spike Islander vessel since
2018. In January this year, the Policy & Finance Committee asked for expressions of interest
in running the ferry service and last month reached a decision to invite The Little Ferry to
resume operations.

During the summer staycation season last year, the company carried 4,350 passengers, just
under half of them coming to Alderney from Guernsey.

Annie Burgess, Chair of the Economic Development Committee, said: "We are delighted that
the Little Ferry is back. This service is so important for our Island. Last year's staycation
initiative meant that with Aurigny and The Little Ferry we were able to welcome so many
friends from Guernsey."

Meanwhile the States of Alderney will continue to consider the potential for a larger vessel
carrying 30 to 40 passengers as part of its longer-term strategy for developing an integrated
transport system for the island.

Bruno Kay Mouat, managing director of Alderney Shipping, welcomed the possibility of
further dialogue as a larger ferry would mean fewer cancellations caused by adverse
weather conditions.
