Vaccinated 16 & 17 year olds to be treated as 'blue' travellers
The CCA has agreed that from today 16 and 17 year old islanders who have received one dose of vaccine (in accordance with the JCVI guidelines) and 2 weeks have elapsed since that dose was administered will be able to benefit from reduced restrictions on arrival into the Bailiwick, like other fully vaccinated travellers. This will include being able to benefit from the 'blue channel' when travelling from the UK or elsewhere in the Common Travel Area.
The CCA made this decision in light of the evidence that the single dose in this age group provides 80% protection against hospitalisation and also because we do not currently have any guidance as to when the second dose should be administered.
This decision relates to travel into the Bailiwick only.
A letter will be supplied by the Vaccine Contact Centre as evidence for use in the Travel Tracker that a single dose has been administered. Letters will be supplied as quickly as possible but this process can take several days, and if someone is preparing to travel and has not received one they should ensure they contact the VCC more than 7 days before their journey to allow enough time for the letter to be provided.
The letter supplied will not be accepted for any other purpose outside of the Bailiwick of Guernsey and should not be used outside of the Bailiwick as proof of Covid-19 vaccination. It does not entitle them to receive a Guernsey proof of vaccination certificate. Once the JCVI has issued its guidance on what constitutes a full vaccine course for persons aged under-18, further consideration will be given to the criteria for issuing Guernsey proof of vaccination certificates to this age group.
