Free Lateral Flow Tests for Alderney

Islanders can collect their free Lateral Flow Test (LFT) packs from the Welcome Centre at Alderney harbour (next to the showers) every day between 0900-1030 and 1330-1430 for the next two weeks or while stocks last.

In a move to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus over the winter, Guernsey Public Health is making available packs of 25 LFTs from today (Monday October 18th).

Those who are unable to collect their LFT packs in person can ask a friend or family member to collect on their behalf or call the Alderney Welcome Team on 07781 130335 to arrange delivery.

This move is important as over the next few months we are more likely to be indoors, in crowded places or attending parties, and potentially coming into contact with positive cases. As of Friday last week there were 158 known active cases in Guernsey, none in Alderney.

Islanders are being advised to consider using these kits:
• To regularly test themselves to check if they have the virus - it is recommended they take two tests per week, every week.
• If they are asked to do so by the Contract Tracing Team as they have been identified as a contact of a case;
• Before visiting a vulnerable person, for example someone living in a care home;
• Before attending an event or meeting in a crowded or poorly ventilated place;
• If asked to do so by Public Health Services.

If your LFT shows positive then you should phone the Clinical Helpline on 220001 or 220002 straight away to book in for a PCR test and stay at home until you have the result of this test. If the LFT is for a child, please notify the school or childcare setting. Other people in your household do not need to stay home at this stage.

If your PCR test is negative you can return to your normal activities but, if you feel unwell, Public Health recommends you stay at home. If your PCR test confirms you are positive for COVID-19 you will need to continue to isolate and you will be contacted by Public Health Services.

"This is a very positive move by Public Health," said Alderney's President William Tate. "Along with the booster vaccination it gives us more layers of protection although we need to remain vigilant, especially through the winter months when there are risks of additional respiratory conditions.

"We need to keep doing what we have been doing - regular hand-washing, respecting personal space and being aware of the importance of ventilation in enclosed spaces."
