Expression of Interest for a Slaughterman's Assistant

The States of Alderney, through the General Services Committee, is seeking Expression of Interest (EOI) for a Slaughterman's Assistant.

The Assistant will receive training and work alongside the current Slaughterman and Assistant with options to progress to Slaughterman.

The nature of the work entails from receipt of live animals through a strictly controlled handling facility, including cutting and deboning to completion of the slaughter process.

You need to be empathetic and respectful of animals and be part of a team who are diligent as well as upholding professional behavioural standards in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. They may be an option to progress to Slaughterman position including training and qualification through 'Welfare of Animals at Time of Kill' (WATOK) and Certificate of Confidence (CoC).

Abattoir operatives work is overseen by Environmental Health Officers (EHO) and the States of Guernsey's Veterinary Officers (SVO). The EHO's and SVO's will undertake audits, including samples to ensure that it meets appropriate hygiene standards and does not represent a risk to human health.

The work will require some time off island (UK) as part of the training. Training may take several months to complete and with an opportunity to develop into Slaughterman position.
Experience not essential, handling of animals, butchery etc advantageous.

The type of employment, which will be part-time, is open for discussion; employed, contract, self-employed etc. Position to commence early 2022.
