States of Alderney's Island Plan published

The States of Alderney has published its eagerly awaited Island Plan with a vision to "maximise Alderney's prosperity and resilience".

The 24-page document, supported by a single page summary, sets out a range of themes and goals which will be progressed to fruition through working with groups and key individuals, whilst always being mindful of ensuring that we use and prioritise our resources efficiently in an ever-changing world.

The Civil Service, General Services Committee (GSC), Building Development Control Committee (BDCC) and Policy and Finance Committee (P&F) will oversee the day-to-day work of each aspect assigned to them under the Plan.
The document identifies 16 'drivers for change' from operational effectiveness and job creation to health provision and synergy with Guernsey.

It covers six key themes of Economy, Energy, Accessibility and Connectivity, Community Development, Environment and Governance and sets out its goals and action plans under each theme.

The plan was drawn up by a Working Group after community consultation and reflects what residents, businesses and Members currently think is important to focus on over the coming years.

Lead author, Policy & Finance Deputy Chairman Ian Carter, said: "As a 'living document', it will be revised to accommodate changes with progress reviewed and reported every six months. This will enable Islanders to have the opportunity for ongoing community engagement and input into what is expected to be a sustainable framework for action over the coming years. Simply put, it is a roadmap to focus time and resources effectively."
