Press Release - Platinum Jubilee Four Day Celebratory weekend - 24.05.2022

Press Release

23rd May 2022

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee four day celebratory weekend.

I am delighted to say, that today we have published the spectacular programme of events taking place over the course of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend, the 2nd to the 5th of June.

Whilst the programme is published through my office, the lion's share of the work has been carried out by Ronnie Cairnduff, assisted by Ilona Soane-Sands and Barbara Benfield. A small group of us have been working over the last few months, to put together a programme which is a fitting tribute to the occasion, but also provides something for everybody over the course of the weekend.

It is impossible to single out any one event, but the party on the Butes on Thursday the 2nd of June will be the formal start of the celebrations and will finish with the lighting of a spectacular beacon, to coincide with beacons being lit throughout the UK.

What Ronnie and his team have put together has exceeded my wildest expectations. With the benefit of hind-sight we would have not expected anything less.

On Sunday the 5th of June, there will be a Churches Together Service at St. Anne's Church at 10.30a.m. It will be followed by a parade led by the British Legion, all our emergency services, States Members, Jurats, Cubs, Scouts and anyone else who wishes to take part.

The parade will finish at the bottom of Victoria Street, where Jubilee Medals will be presented to members of the emergency services. It is an important occasion and I would encourage everybody to attend to support the people who keep us safe.

Given events of the last two years, this is a perfect opportunity to show not only our support for Her Majesty The Queen for her 70 years of selfless service, but also to celebrate our community who have faced the challenges together and are now entitled to celebrate together.

This will no doubt be a memorable weekend. I would invite everybody to take advantage of the fantastic events on offer over the weekend. The programme will be available in shops, and online.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to everybody who has contributed to this extravaganza, particularly the volunteers, who as always have given their time and energy to make this an occasion to remember.

Once again Alderney punches above its weight.
