Press Release - Energy Policy

New appointments to drive new energy policy

States of Alderney Member Kevin Gentle has been appointed Chairman of the Energy Policy Group which has been tasked with defining forward-thinking policy for the Island.

James Lancaster, MD of Alderney Electricity Ltd (AEL), has stepped down from the Group as he leads the organisation that will be most affected by the policy and is also a key figure in negotiations with SIMEC Atlantis Energy over the tidal turbine project.

The Policy & Finance Committee (P&F) recently appointed newly elected Member and former AEL director Bill Abel to the Energy Policy Group.

The Policy was due to be completed in the spring but was delayed during the pandemic lockdown period. Now P&F has asked for a progress report and a timetable for completion of the policy which will set out the key issues and options for Alderney in relation to the supply, use and development of energy for the Island.

Energy policy will play an essential role in Alderney's economic recovery by meeting future challenges while protecting the environmental and economic attractiveness of the Island.
