Official statistics for Alderney are compiled by the States of Guernsey Data & Analysis team who produce four reports each year, details of which can be found below. All the reports use data sourced from the Rolling Electronic Census, an award winning IT system completed in late 2014, which collates demographic, employment and economic data from several separate States of Guernsey databases.

  • Population
    The Alderney Electronic Census Report provides headline information on the population of Alderney at March.

    • At the end of March 2018, Alderney's population was 2,019.

    • The population increased by 1.9% (37 people) over the year ending 31 March 2018.

    • There was a natural decrease of 15 people and net migration of 52 people over the year ending 31 March 2018

  • Employment
    The Alderney Employment Bulletin provides information on employment as at June each year.

    • There was an increase of 1.8% in the number of people either employed or self-employed for the year ending 30th June 2019.

    • The number of employed people increased by 2.7% and the number of self-employed decreased by 1.9%.

    • Median earnings increased by 1.6% between the year ending December 2017 and the year ending December 2018, from £24,669 to £25,064.

    • At the end of December 2018, the four quarter median average earnings for females was 1.2% higher than a year earlier and was 3.1% higher than a year earlier for males.

  • Household Income
    The Alderney Household Income Report provides a profile of household incomes.

    • Just over one third (35.6%) of all Alderney households were comprised of either one adult (65 and over) or two adults (65 and over) at the end of 2017.

    • The overall mean household income after deduction of social security contributions, income tax and imputed housing costs (equivalised) was £31,798 (£611 per week) and the overall median was £26,446 (£509 per week) in 2017.

  • Earnings 
    The Alderney Earnings Bulletin provides information on median earnings as at December.
