Press Release - Appointment of Chief Executive 19.02.2021

A new Chief Executive for the States of Alderney has been appointed.

Kath Jones was formerly the Senior Administrator of Sark for five years where she was instrumental
in a wide range of strategic issues to support the government.

Prior to that she has held senior roles with the Local Government Association and the London
Borough of Redbridge.

The Chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee, Bill Abel, said "We are very pleased to announce
that Kath Jones will be the next Chief Executive of the States of Alderney. Kath brings with her a
wealth of experience in the operation and management of an island government combined with a
thorough understanding of the Bailiwick. All this will be particularly valuable at this time, when the
world is facing considerable challenges and when at a more local level we are taking positive steps to
strengthen our relationship with the States of Guernsey while at the same time ensuring we
continue to safeguard our cultural and legislative independence."

"I am confident that with her record in relevant public sector roles Kath can support this
government's ambition to maintain and grow the Alderney economy and to ensure public services
are delivered as required."

President of the States, William Tate added "I am optimistic that Kath's track record within the
Bailiwick and her appreciation of the workings of small island communities will prove to be just what
we need at this time. I am also pleased to advise that His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor has
given his approval to the appointment."

Kath Jones said "I am delighted to be taking up this unique role as Chief Executive for the States
of Alderney. I am looking forward to the exciting challenges of contributing to the success of the
Alderney economy and providing both energy and stability to the civil service. There is much good
work already in train which I will, in conjunction with the elected Members, ensure continues to
develop so that Alderney remains a place where people want to live and work."

Kath Jones will be relocating to Alderney in March along with her dog Dexter.

The appointment process for the new Chief Executive was run by the Chief Executive Appointment Board which was given responsibility to make the appointment by the States
Employment Board. In accordance with the Government of Alderney Law, the States will be asked
to confirm the appointment at its next States Meeting.
