Press Release - Stage 2 for Alderney 26.02.2021

Alderney moves to Stage Two lockdown exit on Tuesday

Alderney will move to Stage Two of lockdown exit on Tuesday March 2nd. This will allow the
Island to enjoy more freedom to meet as restaurants, pubs, cafés and hotels will be able to
operate with table service only.

Non-essential retailers can open their doors and construction sites can operate within strict
conditions and limitations. All businesses must maintain records to demonstrate they are
working to a clear operating plan within the Covid-19 restrictions and Public Health
guidance.

The 14-day self-isolation rule remains in place for anyone arriving from Guernsey and
pleasure boats are not permitted to visit the island until these provisions are modified.

St Anne's School will be opening and parents and pupils will be advised directly by the Head
Teacher who is working with his staff and the education authorities to ensure that a safe
and prompt opening is achieved as soon as possible next week.

This early move to the next lockdown release stage has been possible because of the low
risk of the introduction of Covid-19 to the community and is a very positive development for
the Island.

But, as it is happening well in advance of such a move in Guernsey, the guidelines that will
apply for people and businesses are still being reviewed in the light of the increasing
understanding of the ability of the Covid-19 virus to be transmitted between people. The
guidelines presently on the covid.gov.gg website are likely to change to represent a slightly
more cautious approach to Stage Two. Therefore, the final guidelines for Stage Two are not
expected to be available until Monday March 1st.

The Island can expect to move to Stage Three a week later, on Tuesday March 9th, subject to
confirmation by the Civil Contingencies Authority (CCA).

Alderney has only seen one case of COVID-19 and the individual has since recovered. As was
reflected at the time, the case was one where contact tracers established that there were
no further contacts and it presented very little risk.

Alderney States Member Bill Abel, who represents the States of Alderney on the CCA, said:
"We are fortunate to be in a position where we currently have no active cases of Covid-19,
and we have not seen a new case since that single case was cleared a week ago. So the CCA
and the States of Alderney are agreed that it's entirely appropriate for Alderney to move
forward through its exit from lockdown."

The announcement was made today (February 26th), the day after Sark moved into Stage
Two. The CCA will reach a decision about Guernsey's move to Stage Two at its meeting on
Tuesday, while fresh guidance about what is permitted in Stage Two is expected to be
published at https://covid19.gov.gg on Monday March 1.

Sark moved into Stage Two on Thursday February 25 and is expected to move to Stage
Three next Thursday.

Further details and clarifications will be published on the Alderney.gov.gg website as they
become available while full details of the Bailiwick's 'Exit from Lockdown' are at
https://covid19.gov.gg/guidance/exit.
