Press Release - Stage 3

Alderney to enjoy 'freedom bubble' from Tuesday March 9

The Civil Contingencies Authority (CCA) has confirmed that Alderney can move to Stage Three of lockdown exit tomorrow, Tuesday March 9th.

This means the Island can enjoy social and work freedom without social distancing and the school can return to normal education once again. Face coverings and masks will no longer be a legal requirement although some people may wish to remain cautious in indoor public areas.

The 14-day self-isolation rule remains in place for anyone arriving from Guernsey and outside the Bailiwick although there are variations to this that may be granted for critical workers, those undergoing medical treatment, and on compassionate grounds.

The move to the final lockdown exit release stage has been possible because of the low risk of the introduction or spread of Covid-19 to the community.

"We will be in an 'Alderney open bubble' with restrictions on travel into the island still in place," said Alderney's representative on the CCA, Bill Abel. "But it allows Islanders to once again enjoy our pubs, cafés and restaurants without restrictions and for retailers and businesses to return to normal.

"However, we must remain vigilant and immediately report any symptoms as we do not want to undo all the hard work that has been put into controlling the outbreak over the past few weeks."

Anyone experiencing symptoms, however mild, should call the IMC on 822077 and await instructions. They should not visit the IMC or the hospital in person.

No new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Guernsey for 10 consecutive days with just four active cases remaining.

Guernsey will enter Stage Two today (March 8th) while Sark entered Stage Three on Thursday March 4th.
