Alderney property owners reminded about cutting back

Mindful of the imminent nesting season for birds, property owners in Alderney are being reminded of a legal requirement to keep all hedges and vegetation next to public roads and pathways trimmed or pruned to avoid public obstruction.

An ordinance that has stood the test of time since 1952 states that all property owners should keep hedges and trees trimmed so they do not obstruct the public or vehicles.

The General Services Committee receive regular complaints regarding overhanging vegetation and is therefore giving fair warning prior to the Bird Nesting Season beginning this month. States Works will step in where owners fail to maintain hedges or trees and invoice accordingly.

The only exemption is if evidence is produced that birds are nesting there.
