Alderney reviews its community and leisure facilities

As part of its strategic Island Plan, Alderney's Policy & Finance Committee (PFC) has commissioned an initiative to explore the Island's potential for leisure and community facilities using its property asset portfolio.

A feasibility study by Avison Young Ltd will review current and potential community and leisure facility needs for an island community in the 21st century and identify potential partnership opportunities.

Alderney currently enjoys around 45 sports and fitness activities and many more community activities in the arts and cultural spheres.

The team, with support from PFC Members Ian Carter and Bill Abel - the States representatives for this initiative - have already held discussions with numerous stakeholders and is engaging directly with the wider community and other stakeholders through a consultation survey.

Mr Carter said: "The study is investigating future community and leisure facility needs and identifying potential partnership opportunities. Engagement also includes on and off island

providers in the private, public and third sectors as well as members of the community. It will identify the opportunities for tourism as well as attracting and retaining young families to live and work in our beautiful Island."

The feasibility study is expected to be concluded this Spring and will report back to PFC for further consideration.

The study is looking at the Island's needs and current provision as well as States assets that could be used or adapted. Resulting recommendations may be in the form of repurposing or consolidating current sites or creating new single or multi-site facilities.

The survey, which will close on 7th April 2024, can be found at:
