Public Notice - Australian Flatworms - 28.03.2024

Australian Flatworms have been found on Alderney and we are asking islanders for their help.

 

There have been multiple reports of Australian flatworms so far in 2024. The flatworms are an invasive non-native species that eat earthworms and therefore can have a negative impact on soil health.  Currently all sightings have been from one area.  However, we would like Islanders to assist in determining whether the flatworms are more prevalent. Therefore, in collaboration with the Alderney Wildlife Trust, we have produced the following guidance which assists in 'trapping', identifying and disposing of the flatworm, which can be found here Australian Flatworm Public Notice v4 af.pdf (gov.gg)
